  • Changes in Visitation Vending (Food & Drinks)

    Effective August 19, 2024, SQRC no longer has a vendor to provide vending machines for food and drinks. The Warden has authorized the use of the snack bar until the California Department of Rehabilitation secures a vendor. There are change machines. Visitors will need to bring $1 bills and quarters with them to visiting. Staff do not have the ability to break larger bills or make change so please come to visiting prepared.

    San Quentin News reports on rehabilitative efforts to increase public safety and achieve social justice.

    Today, SQ News prints 35,000 newspapers each month and distributes them to all 30+ CDCR prisons, four juvenile facilities, university and public libraries, to hundreds of donors that include individuals outside of California. It publishes the quarterly magazine Wall City, the newsletter Inside SQ News and the website sanquentinnews.com. The state of California does not fund the paper. It is funded by grants from foundations and generous private donations.

    Forward This is focused on transforming prison culture and changing the narrative society has on those incarcerated. We do this by providing new economic opportunities for impacted communities by teaching film industry skills and allowing the incarcerated to share their narrative through film and digital video.
